The vast majority of us do not have teeth that shine like Vanna White. Part of this is our way of life and our daily hygiene, but many of them have to do with genetics.
“A lot of people will naturally have white teeth, no matter what they come in,” says Dr. Aragon Uzeppe, a prescription physician.
Teeth get their whiteness from the enamel, the outer layer of the tooth. If your enamel is naturally thin, the deeper structure of the tooth, called the dentin, will begin to erupt, giving your teeth a darker appearance.
This inner dentin layer can be painted or discolored. This type of discoloration is what experts call “internal spots”. Then there is discoloration caused by external factors called “external spots”.
“Spots, discoloration and jaundice are caused by pigmented foods, beverages and substances,” says Useppe. “Failure to maintain the health of the teeth and mouth will also contribute to jaundice.”
In addition to adhering to dental hygiene, there are steps you can take, from DIY to the office, to help restore shine to your teeth. Although we want to make it clear that there is no magic bullet when it comes to teeth whitening, the results vary from person to person.
Unfortunately, there are no final DIY teeth whitening methods that work for everyone. However, there are several methods that have been shown to reduce plaque և bacteria, which protects the overall hygiene of the teeth և can have a whitening effect.
Keep in mind that these approaches will likely need to be performed daily for long weeks to see results.
The Ayurvedic practice of extracting oil involves pouring oil around your mouth like a regular mouthwash. As a whitening method, the idea is that the oil removes bacteria that can turn into plaque, causing the teeth to turn yellow.
One study found that sesame oil reduced the number of bacteria on the board by 1 to 2 weeks, and another found similar results when extracted with coconut oil.
We recommend using coconut oil, as the taste will be more tolerable.
How to draw oil?
- Put about a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth.
- Swirl յուղ oil around your mouth և on your teeth, ideally for 15-20 minutes (if this seems impossible for a long time, try watching a show or find something to clean while pulling).
- Spit the oil, then brush your teeth.
Yes, you can apply baking soda directly. However, according to research, it works best as a whitening agent if you add it to toothpaste.
“Baking soda is known to have natural whitening properties, which is why it is a popular ingredient in many toothpastes,” explains Effrey Sulitzer, lead dentist at SmileDirectClub’s DMD. “It creates an alkaline environment in the mouth, which helps prevent the growth of bacteria. This product will not whiten your teeth overnight, but over time you may notice a difference in the appearance of your teeth.
How to use baking soda?
- Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with one or two drops of water (until it gets a thick paste).
- Brush in normal mode.
Apple cider vinegar
The main ingredient in apple cider vinegar, acetic acid, kills bacteria that can cause discoloration.
“However, acetic acid can damage tooth enamel,” says Sulitzer. “It simply came to our notice then. If you want to use this method, I do not recommend it [doing] “Every day, make sure you rinse your mouth with water.”
How to use apple cider vinegar
- Combine 1 tablespoon water և 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar.
- Walk for 1 minute, as in the case of mouthwash.
If you enjoy saving money and not wearing pants, you may want to try one of these home remedies. Just read the label և enter the instructions.
“Over-the-counter treatment is a great way to achieve a white smile,” says Sulitzer. “You can still achieve such results [to in-office treatments] in the comfort of your own home. ”
The easiest և most effective OTC product is also the easiest to add to your daily whitening toothpaste. These toothpastes use baking soda, hydrogen peroxide or other abrasives such as silicon to remove surface stains. Keep in mind that it may take several weeks to see results.
One of the most popular options is teeth whitening strips, which you can buy in drugstores և usually cost around $ 50-100. As with toothpaste, the active ingredient in this type of toothpaste is usually hydrogen peroxide.
As mentioned above, us uzeppe warns that the use recommended on the label may not be exceeded, as this can lead to tooth sensitivity, dental problems, and enamel wear.
Or it is definitely more expensive, teeth whitening in the office provides the safest and fastest results.
According to Sulitzer, office treatments are more effective because they use higher levels of peroxide.
Enlarge և promote whitening techniques
Magnification bleaching can be done quickly in 30 minutes using a laser և 25% hydrogen peroxide gel. The Opalescence Boost method also uses a hydrogen peroxide-based whitening gel, but it takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete.
These teeth whitening techniques can take 1 to 2 years, depending on your teeth.
Both procedures cost about $ 500, depending on your dentist: insurance.
With a whitening tray, the dentist shapes the mouth-shaped tray to fit the mouth, explains us uzeppe.
Then you take the tray home, fill it with a syringe with peroxide-based whitening paste, which is placed on the teeth for 1 to several hours at night.
You do this every day for 2 to 4 weeks. “Then, at the end, sign up again to make sure the trays are working,” says us uzeppe. Ask your dentist for specific instructions if you decide to whiten this way.
The cost depends on the clinic և how much bleach is obtained. Many work from $ 400 to $ 700.
Finally, there are home remedies provided by your dentist. These are ready-made tray kits that often contain a more concentrated level of bleach than OTC bleach kits.
Expect to see results in 1 to 2 weeks և spend about $ 150-200.
The effectiveness of the teeth whitening method ultimately depends on what color you have (exterior և interior). And the best way to answer that question is to be evaluated by a specialist.
Remember that no teeth whitening method is safe. But on the bright side, how white your teeth are is much less noticeable than you might think.
